The Centre unveils partnerships with City & Guilds and GO1 to enhance its talent development capabilities.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – During a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) launched its ‘Competent F&B Specialist in Business Events Industry’ training initiative in partnership with City & Guilds. The occasion also saw 10 of the Centre’s inhouse trainers awarded their City & Guilds appointment letters which enables them to commence their training sessions at the venue immediately. In addition, the Centre unveiled its new learning management system (LMS) ‘EduClick’ developed in conjunction with GO1.
City & Guilds is the United Kingdom's leading awarding organisation for work-based qualifications. Offering more than 500 qualifications through 8,500 colleges and training providers in 81 countries worldwide.
GO1 is an established leader in online learning and education, providing the simplest way for businesses to find, book and deliver their corporate training.
As an industry leader whose quality and service excellence depend on a well-trained workforce, the Centre puts an emphasis on training and professional development to enhance the skills of its team members, many of whom go on to utilise these skills in other parts of the Malaysian hospitality and business events industry.
According to the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor, “We are very excited to be unveiling these new partnerships, which builds on the success of our previous training initiatives. I would like to congratulate our Human Resources team on securing this collaboration. I look forward to seeing this truly benefit our team members.”
Elaborating on Pryor’s comments, the Centre’s Director of Human Resources, Muhammad Vickneswaran shared that “We are honoured to be the first business events employer in Malaysia to partner with City & Guilds, who have been working with us to certify our tailor-made training modules. We have always had strong internal skills development and training programmes, but this tie up with City & Guilds takes it to the next level and will add a global recognition to our inhouse training programmes.”
He continued, “We plan to roll this initiative out in two phases, with the first phase modules covering culinary, beverage, food safety, people management and banqueting skills, which are all extremely relevant to the business events industry and designed primarily for our internal team. It is envisaged that the second phase of training will be more venue-centric focused on modules such as event coordination, AV and IT related competencies, meeting design and setup. This will be offered to industry players and stakeholders as part of our contribution to the overall development and enhancement of the Malaysian hospitality and business events industry.”
In addition to its investment in the City & Guilds programme, the Centre has also created its very own learning management system (LMS) in collaboration with GO1. This provides employees with more opportunities and the flexibility to grow and enhance their skills through an ‘on-the-go learning’ platform – EduClick.
Vickneswaran added, “I would also like to thank GO1 for their excellent support in the creation of our LMS platform. I am happy with the overall response from our team members, and over 100 employees have already registered for the first round of training sessions. This type of mobile learning is competency-based training that uses blended learning – 60% online and 40% practical, which appeals to both our younger and older team members, and allows us to use face-to-face time more effectively.”
Speaking on the partnership, City & Guilds, Head of Sales, East Asia, Victoria Horrox, shared “City & Guilds has been delivering skills education to meet employers’ needs since it was founded in 1878. We feel honoured to be collaborating with the Centre to add global recognition and certification to their in-house training programmes. We look forward to working with the Centre, as pioneers in the business events and hospitality sector in Malaysia, to build, develop and certificate key training programmes that are critical to developing and upskilling staff and management, which holds great value for us.”
