Singapore introduces a unique co-living space concept, transforming a decommissioned train carriage into a boutique hotel, opening in September 2024.

SINGAPORE – Singapore is set to introduce an innovative co-living space concept with its first-ever train hotel, scheduled to open in September 2024. This unique accommodation, developed by local startup Tiny Pod in collaboration with JTC Corporation, will repurpose a decommissioned SMRT train carriage into a boutique co-living hotel.

Innovative Reuse of Space

The project is an extension of Tiny Pod’s successful LaunchPad @ one-north initiative, a creative pop-up shipping container space launched in 2020. This initiative reflects Tiny Pod’s commitment to transforming underutilized spaces into dynamic areas, with other containers also being up for rent at iconic locations like Gardens by the Bay and Haw Par Villa.

Unique Guest Experience

Located at Ayer Rajah Crescent, the train hotel will feature eight rooms, each with an attached bathroom. A standout feature of the hotel will be the LCD panels in the driver’s compartment, which will display real-life footage of the train’s previous journeys through Singapore’s tunnels, offering guests a surreal travel experience.

Sustainable and Community-Focused Design

The hotel design includes a recreational green space integrated with facilities such as F&B vending machines, bicycle racks, and repurposed train chairs serving as public benches, creating a community-friendly environment.

Seah Liang Chiang, founder and CEO of Tiny Pod, emphasized the dual benefits of the project, stating, “By transforming underutilized spaces into unique accommodation experiences, we unlock new revenue streams and minimize our environmental footprint.”

Anticipated Opening and Future Prospects

With its opening in September, the co-living train hotel is expected to attract both local and international visitors, offering them an unforgettable stay in one of Singapore’s most innovative lodging options.
