HomeAway reveals top regional travel destinations and accommodation types for Singaporean travellers in 2018

Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul were top destinations for Singaporean families and friends in 2018; air-conditioning, kitchen and Wi-Fi were top three trending amenities for holiday home rentals.

HomeAway, a pioneer and world leader in holiday home rentals, today released the HomeAway Asia 2018 Trend Report that revealed the most popular Asia travel destinations for Singaporean families and friends, as well as key features of accommodation types they searched for during 2018.

Top Asian Holiday Home Rental Destinations For Singaporeans in 2018
  • Bangkok, Thailand: Renowned for its warm hospitality, varied experiences and vibrant nightlife, the bustling city of Bangkok was a popular destination for travellers in search of delicious food and affordable shopping.
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: In recent years, the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur has risen steadily in popularity as a travel destination and is well-known as a thriving metropolis built on a healthy blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian influences.  The combination of monuments and natural attractions, coupled with a diverse range of culinary delights, made this industrial city a must-visit for travellers this year.
  • Seoul, South Korea: The incredibly rich history of the country, coupled with its rapid and successful development was essential in reinforcing South Korea’s reputation as an amazing country to visit, with Seoul further establishing itself in 2018 as the proverbial heartbeat of the nation.
Trending Features That Singaporean Travellers Looked For In A Holiday Home Rental

The top three amenities that Singaporean travellers searched for in their HomeAway properties were air-conditioning, kitchen and Wi-Fi access. Having a washing machine and being kid-friendly wrapped up the five most sought-after features.

Trending Accommodation Types

Whole-home accommodation options continued to grow in popularity ever since the trend was first identified in 2017, with apartments, houses and villas being the most popular options amongst Singaporean travellers. There was also an increase in interest in unique accommodation stay experiences like treehouses (+100%), cabins (+50%) and cottages (+50%).

The HomeAway Experience

Last year, Singaporean travellers predominantly booked trips for party sizes of three to four people, for an average duration of four to five nights. Bookings were made with a relatively short timeframe of one month between booking their accommodation and check-in, suggesting an element of spontaneity.
