New passenger record for Norwegian in June

The total number of passengers flown in June was close to 977,000, an increase of more than 130,000 passengers or 15 per cent compared to June 2008. This is the highest number of passengers during one single month in the history of the company, and the second consecutive record setting month.

“June constitutes yet another month with significant growth. The fact that the passenger growth is set ahead of the busy holiday season is a strong vote of confidence from our passengers, and a result which we are very pleased with”, says CEO Bjorn Kjos.

The previous record was set in May 2009. This month’s figures outnumber the previous record by 31 000 passengers. A large proportion of the growth in May stem from strong domestic growth in Norway and new routes in Denmark. The passenger figures in Denmark remain stable compared to May which confirms that Norwegian has become a well established player in the Danish market. The number of domestic passengers in Norway increased by more than to 62 000 passengers compared to last year- an increase of 19 per cent.

The load factor for the Group in June was 79 per cent, a decrease of 1 percentage point compared to June 2008. In Sweden, the load factor was 80 per cent.

The Group estimates a yield around NOK 0.64 for June 2009, compared to 0.65 for the same month in 2008.

In June 2009 the Group operated 99.7 per cent of it’s scheduled flights, whereof 80 per cent departed on time. The on-time performance compared to May (87.1) is affected by slot restrictions in Europe – particularly in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean ocean.
