Luxury Asian brand Meritus Hotels & Resorts will cease the management of Meritus Negara Singapore, effective from 01 January 2007. December 31, 2006 signifies an amicable end to a mutually successful 15 year relationship between Meritus Hotels & Resorts and Hotel Negara Limited, following a material change in ownership of a major shareholding in Hotel Negara Limited. Hotel Negara Limited, which is now wholly owned by UOL Group, will on its own operate and manage the hotel under the name “Negara on Claymore” with effect from 1 January 2007.

The management contract in respect of Hotel Negara Limited provides that in the event of a material change in ownership of a majority shareholder of Hotel Negara Limited it has the right to terminate the contract. Consequently, such right was exercised following the acquisition by UOL Group. The termination will not materially impact the Group’s results.

“The hotel is proud to have received numerous awards whilst under our management” said Mr. Raymond Ang – General Manager of Meritus Negara Singapore. He added, “Our entire team has been dedicated in delivering the finest service and Asian hospitality which has resulted in outstanding guest satisfaction ratios”.

Meritus Hotels & Resorts has undertaken major renovations in all its properties over the last eighteen months, including that of its Singapore flagship, Meritus Mandarin Singapore. These improvements were planned to coincide with the group’s major brand evolution launched last year.

Recent business growth has reaffirmed for the company the brands potential and provided the impetus for accelerated development plans.

“We must now ensure that our drive for excellence includes not only product quality and service standards, but that of sought after prime locations” said Mr. Hidey Yanaka, Vice President – Marketing & Sales for Meritus Hotels & Resorts.
