Tourism Malaysia pioneers in the metaverse through a strategic collaboration with online platforms, featuring virtual tours and iconic attractions. Aimed at Millennials and Gen Z, the initiative enhances digital engagement and diversifies the tourism experience.

KUALA LUMPUR – Tourism Malaysia makes its first foray into the realm of metaverse by launching “Let’s Go MRXD Season 2”, featuring Thomas Kok, aka Mr Xiao Dong (MRXD), a multi-talented Malaysian artiste in the online gaming platform, Spatial in partnership with Colorverse, WebTVAsia and Prodigee Asia Talent.

This latest collaboration, which is inspired by the production of the “Let’s Go MRXD Season 1” travel vlog in Mandarin earlier this year, highlights Thomas’s adventure with his classic Kenari in exploring the northern states of Malaysia to connect with locals with his storytelling, coffee and music, using the reality show concept.

Set to be unveiled in October, “Let’s Go MRXD Season 2” will further explore Thomas’s journey to the central and southern states of Malaysia, including Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur, with the adoption of detailed mapping and Web 3.0 technology.

The audience will be transported to experience Malaysia via 12 iconic attractions in the additional Mini Malaysia featured in the mini-games, including Penang Bridge, Cameron Highlands, Kellie’s Castle, Batu Caves, Church of the Visitation & Seremban Train Station, Red Square in Melaka, KL & Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Floating Mosque in Kuala Perlis, Crystal Mosque/Sea Turtle in Terengganu, Tanjung Piai in Johor and Wau Bulan in Kelantan as they accomplish several tasks in a virtual world. Besides that, there is also a public space for live events for the Meet and Greet session with Thomas in the metaverse, and lucky fans may stand a chance to win tickets to tourist attractions.

Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, said, “Tourism Malaysia recognises the value of harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as in the metaverse platform to reach new audiences in innovative ways, including Millennials and Gen Z from around the world.”

“The virtual experience offers users the chance to engage within the digital realm, replicating the sensation of being physically present at the destinations. Furthermore, this immersive journey promises high-quality introductions and meaningful interactions with diverse individuals.”

“Let’s Go MRXD Season 2” was launched in conjunction with the Malaysia Digital Content Festival at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Visitors can look forward to immersing themselves in the novel experience of navigating the Malaysian metaverse via virtual reality (VR) at the Colorverse booth on- site. The first 50 participants each day will receive a special gift sponsored by La Estephe. Colorverse will be at booth 7F065 in the Hall 7 at Level 3.
