Blueground expands to Japan with Mitsubishi Estate franchise deal

Rental apartment

Blueground partners with Mitsubishi Estate to launch 13,000 furnished apartments in Japan, enhancing its global flexible rental network.

Blueground, the large global operator of furnished, flexible rentals for 30+ day stays, has entered into its first-ever franchise agreement with Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd.,  to establish Blueground in Japan. This franchise agreement is integral to Blueground’s new strategic partnership model, aimed at broadening the company’s presence beyond its existing portfolio of 15,000 apartments in 32 cities. Mitsubishi Estate, a renowned leader in real estate and hospitality,  will develop an extensive network of 13,000 furnished apartments across major cities in Japan.

Blueground operates the largest, curated global network of furnished rentals for 30+ day stays for individuals and corporate clients alike. The company was co-founded in 2013 by CEO Alex Chatzieleftheriou, who, after many years as a business traveler, had experienced first-hand the pain points of living out of hotels for work for months at a time. He aspired to create a way that people could feel settled and at home, while free to explore the world. This strategic collaboration with Mitsubishi Estate aligns with Blueground’s commitment to redefining the future of living and providing tailored accommodation solutions to meet the evolving needs of global citizens. The franchise agreement is proof of Blueground’s innovative approach and Mitsubishi Estate’s confidence in the company’s business model and capabilities.

We are excited to bring Blueground to Japan in collaboration with such a reputable partner,” said Christos Misailidis, CSO & Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer, Blueground. “Mitsubishi Estate’s unparalleled understanding of the Japanese market combined with our innovative technology and expertise in flexible  stays guarantees the success of this new project. We believe that, together with Mitsubishi Estate, we will set new standards for furnished, medium- to long-term stays in Japan, offering a unique and unmatched living experience to guests.”

Embracing the future of living with a focus on furnished, medium- to long-term stays, Mitsubishi Estate envisions the growth and widespread adoption of innovative lifestyle choices in Japan. “We are delighted to announce the signing of a licensing agreement with Blueground,” said Hirofumi Kato, Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. “Leveraging the expertise and resources of Blueground and the Mitsubishi Estate Group, we are excited to offer exceptional experiences to guests from around the world in Tokyo and across Japan.”

In preparation for the market launch in Japan, Blueground is providing Mitsubishi Estate with a turnkey toolkit developed and perfected over the last decade. Mitsubishi Estate not only gains access to Blueground’s proprietary technology, including operating systems, a dynamic pricing model, and the Guest App, but also leverages the advantages of Blueground’s global clientele and expertise in demand generation. Blueground has also established a dedicated implementation team which will be providing ongoing support to Mitsubishi Estate and all franchise partners moving forward.

As Blueground rolls out its innovative franchising model, it is actively seeking entrepreneurial partners who share its core brand values and passion for making people feel at home wherever they choose to live. These partners will facilitate the identification and development of prime locations for Blueground properties and enhance the brand’s visibility in new markets.
