The Perth Convention Bureau has launched its annual scholarships and conference development awards for the not-for-profit association sector, academic institutions and Government agencies. This year there are three $10,000 travel scholarships available to executives and volunteers involved with non-profit associations in Western Australia.

Heading the list is the City of Perth Scholarship which is open to all industry sectors. This is the first year that the City of Perth has supported the Bureau’s scholarship program which aims to assist individuals in their professional development.

On offer for the second year is the Perth Airport Tourism and Aviation Scholarship while the Bureau’s own scholarship this year is open to the academic community.

The Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources for the second year is sponsoring three conference development awards totalling $20,000.

The awards are designed to assist local organisations in the research, marketing and promotion of inaugural national or international conferences based on topical issues in their field.

A $6,000 Regional Award is designed to assist support conferences being held in regional centres while the other two recognise an Exceptional Concept ($10,000) and a Community-based ($4,000) event.

Now in their seventh year, the international award-winning scholarships and conference development awards program has been responsible for securing 62 national and international conferences and generating an estimated $34.76 million in delegate expenditure.

Bureau Executive Chairman Graham Muir said this program had been an extremely cost-effective marketing initiative.

“For an overall investment to date of around $252,500 we have generated a fantastic return for the State,” Mr Muir added. “We are keen to further expand the scholarship program and are delighted that the City of Perth has come on board for 2007.”
