Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport reports a 40% increase in passenger traffic during the 2024 Eid return, implementing measures for efficiency and safety.

JAKARTA, INDONESIA – In a recent announcement, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta reported a significant 40 percent increase in passenger traffic at the peak of the 2024 Eid return flow. On Monday, the airport experienced a surge, accommodating approximately 15,000 arrivals by noon, a substantial increase compared to previous days.

Nadia Putri, the airport’s Public Relations Officer, noted that the majority of these passengers arrived from key Indonesian cities, including Juanda Airport in East Java, Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra, Yogyakarta International Airport, as well as airports in South Sumatra and Central Java.

Efficient Management and Coordination

In response to the influx, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport has implemented several strategic measures to manage the crowd efficiently. “We are collaborating with airlines to pursue on-time performance and reduce delays while coordinating with ground handling officers to ensure that it will only take a maximum of 15 minutes for passengers to retrieve their luggage after landing,” said Putri. This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with airlines aimed at maintaining on-time performance and minimizing delays.

The airport has also strengthened its coordination with various bodies, including the Indonesian Army, National Police, aviation security officers, and the Indonesian Air Force, to effectively manage the surge.

Enhanced Transport and Health Services

To further facilitate the movement of passengers, the airport is working closely with official land transport stakeholders to ensure smooth transit from the airport. Additionally, recognizing the health needs that may arise during such peak times, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport has stationed medical professionals from the Ministry of Health to assist passengers facing health issues.

Nadia Putri urges passengers experiencing health problems to immediately contact airline officers. “To anticipate surging (number of) passengers, we are also cooperating with official land transport stakeholders to pick up the passengers” she added.

Commitment to Passenger Convenience and Safety

The measures implemented by Halim Perdanakusuma Airport underscore its commitment to ensuring the convenience and safety of its passengers during high traffic periods. The airport continues to adapt its operations to meet the demands of increased passenger flows while maintaining high standards of service.
