Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi announces a focus on safety for Eid holiday travelers visiting hometown tourist attractions.

In Jakarta, the focus of Eid al-Fitr holiday management is transitioning towards ensuring the safety of travelers heading to tourism attractions in their hometowns, announced Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi. This strategic shift came after the conclusion of the peak homecoming travel period, which was closely monitored by transportation authorities.

The announcement was made following Minister Sumadi’s participation with President Joko Widodo in overseeing the Eid homecoming activities at Jakarta’s Pasar Senen Station. With the bulk of homecoming travel behind them, the attention is now on travelers venturing to local tourist destinations during the holiday.

A key component of this safety initiative is the enforcement of strict roadworthiness regulations for buses transporting tourists. “It is imperative that tourists only board buses that meet the ministry’s ramp check criteria,” Sumadi emphasized, revealing coordination efforts with the police chief to ensure comprehensive vehicle checks.

Recognizing the tradition among many residents to visit local tourist spots with their families during the Eid holidays, the ministry is taking proactive steps to accommodate the expected increase in public transportation use. Efforts to discourage motorcycle travel during the Eid period are part of a broader strategy to manage holiday traffic safely and efficiently.

Minister Sumadi highlighted specific tourist routes, such as Surakarta to Tawangmangu and Yogyakarta to Borobudur, as areas of focus. Ensuring that bus drivers adhere to proper driving standards is critical to preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of holiday-goers.

To bolster these safety measures, the ministry has coordinated with regional police forces to oversee bus transport management. This includes supervising the ramp check process and vetting bus drivers to guarantee safe passage for Eid travelers. Sumadi also issued directives to prevent buses without ramp check verification from proceeding to tourist attractions, emphasizing the importance of rigorous safety enforcement.

This comprehensive approach underlines the government’s commitment to safeguarding the millions of Indonesians who travel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. By prioritizing the safety of travelers en route to tourism destinations, the ministry aims to ensure that the holiday period is not only a time of celebration but also one of secure and enjoyable travel experiences.
