Unique Venues reports historic member retention

Michele Nichols, Founder & CEO of Unique Venues, announced that their recent membership renewal campaign proved exceptionally effective, resulting in a 73% increase in new customers over year to date 2009. “This is a clear indication”, said Nichols, “that things are trending up and that there is a solid optimistic attitude out there.” Founded in 1986 as a marketing and membership organization for non-traditional meeting venues around the globe, Unique Venues originated to focus on specialized and marginalized markets, and continues to concentrate on that same objective.

According to Tony McGuirt, Unique Venues’ Director of Retention and Member Performance “we are confident that by staying the course, and continuing to provide strong and targeted marketing campaign to our members, we are in a stronger position than in the past few years. It’s all about providing value and exposure for our members.”  He reports that the company’s retention rate has also increased over 11% from year-to-date April 2009.

In August of last year, Unique Venues launched a newly designed brand story and website at uniquevenues.com to better promote their company services. As part of their refreshed brand, the company unveiled a new logo and tagline -you belong here- a message that became a prominent part of their marketing materials. The new website was developed to take advantage of search engine opportunities which has proved to increase traffic to the site and enhance the ability for professional and volunteer meeting planners to connect with non-traditional meeting and event venues.

Jeanne Feathers, Director of Sales, reports that lead generation is a mainstay for Unique Venues. “We focus on providing qualified leads to our members” said Feathers, “through a comprehensive marketing plan that crosses print, electronic and person-to-person efforts. Our leads are up dramatically over last year by 196%. Our members are happy to tell us that they see this as a strong indication that things are looking positive for a recovery from the recent global economic recession.”

Unique Venues members receive exposure to a database of 26,000 meeting planners, space in the annual Unique Venues Planners Guide, and various monthly planner outreach initiatives and dramatically increased exposure on the new website through a carefully executed SEO program. Members represent different venue types that include academic (colleges and universities),stadiums and arenas, special events venues, camps and retreats, conference centers / business centers, and historic and cultural venues. They are all venues for meeting planners looking for non-traditional settings for their event.

Nichols says they plan to stay the course and to continue to seek customer feedback which has proved effective over the past year.
