Sunway Hotels & Resorts projects a 40% increase in room nights with GSA appointment in Tokyo

The hospitality division of the Malaysian conglomerate Sunway Group appoints Tokyo-based travel consultancy, Mac Marketing Service to represent the collection of 11 hotels and resorts in a strategic partnership.

KUALA LUMPUR – Sunway Hotels & Resorts, one of Asia’s leading hospitality groups, projects a 40 percent increase in room nights by 2018 with the appointment of Tokyo-based travel consultancy, Mac Marketing Serviceas part of the company’s market growth strategy and to capitalise on the outbound Japanese travelers to Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, where it has major operations.

The strategic partnership demonstrates Sunway’s long term commitment in developing the Japanese outbound market. “This will further strengthen Sunway’s presence and we look forward to building on deep relationships and leverage of the extensive network Mac Marketing Service has in Japan; and to develop new opportunities from previously untapped segments like the senior travellers and student groups”, said Albert Cheong, CEO of Sunway Hotels & Resorts. “Recognising that growth in the Japanese market will remain moderate in the near term but it will still be a major source market requiring maintenance of marketing and promotional activities,” Albert added.

The untapped Japanese market is a huge potential for Sunway Hotels & Resorts, specifically for the brand’s 5-star luxury natural wellness hot springs destination, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia; a self-contained sanctuary surrounded by lush tropical jungle, natural geothermal hot springs and a cluster of magnificent 260 million year-old limestone hills. Its collection of 45 luxury villas and a spa and wellness centre offering more than 40 authentic Asian-inspired treatments and therapies are complemented by a host of unique features. Other Sunway hotels that will appeal to the Japanese travellers include the brand’s flagship hotels in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, namely the iconic Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, the newly renovated 4.5 star Sunway Pyramid Hotel and the brand new 4-star Sunway Clio Hotel, the 5-star Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur and located in Malaysia’s northern island state of Penang, the 4-star Sunway Hotel Georgetown, known for its central location to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Georgetown’s major tourist attractions.
