Asia’s boating fraternity has given the ‘thumbs up’ to Royal Phuket Marina (RPM) as the premier world-class yachting haven on the Andaman Sea. Four years after opening, the “luxury lifestyle marina” has come of age as the perfect complement to a sublime boating paradise of sun-kissed deserted islands and the most amenable year-round climate imaginable.
Phuket has always been at the forefront of Asia’s sailing fraternity, with the region’s super boats converging once a year for The King’s Cup Regatta.
“I have had my boat here since Royal Phuket Marina opened and there is no other place to be,” said long-term resident yachtsman, Luc Dayot.
Luc moved to Royal Phuket Marina in 2005. After working as an executive managing director of a large supermarket chain Luc relaxes in Phuket where he runs his own highly successful home interior business based at Royal Phuket Marina.
Sailing around Phuket is “the best in the world” says Mr Dayot, “Phang Nga bay, the Similan Islands, the Surin Islands, Krabi and Langkawi, they all take your breath away. This area is maritime heaven!”
Derrick Van Deventer, another resident yachtsman who lives full time in Phuket is the Marina Operations Manager at Royal Phuket Marina, added: “The facilities at Royal Phuket Marina rival any of the best marinas world-wide without question. That’s why it attracts the best boats on Phuket!”
“The fees are a fraction of the cost compared to other equivalent marinas in Europe and the Caribbean, even Singapore and Hong Kong. The cost of crewing a boat with a licensed professional captain and accompanying deck hands is very affordable – at least half the cost of Europe and America.”
“Maintenance is also incredible value for money, as labour intensive jobs cost a lot less than other parts of the world. Plus the boating and yachting here is far superior” he says.
The marina is also hailed for its great service, “(we) have stayed in countless marinas, but we have never seen such a dedicated staff working so hard to make it a good experience for the yachties… the single reason we decided to stay there was you and your staff; you provided the best service we have seen in any marina, ever” said Wynn, who is based in Hong Kong and sails regularly in South east Asia but has a particular affinity with Thailand and Phuket in particular.
Not just for the boating community, the marina is a great lifestyle hub and offers something for everyone.
Resident James Shayler comments “I was looking for a location in Asia that offered both an excellent lifestyle with superb boating which was also affordable. “One of the best places to relax in the evening is Les Anges, people and boat watching over a G&T or your favorite bottle of wine is great fun. I eat out very often simply because it’s so easy” says James, a condo owner from the very beginning. James moved to Phuket to enjoy a lifestyle unavailable in the UK were he sold his business. Now he uses Phuket as his base to travel around Asia and fulfill his love of travel on motor bikes and motor boats.
