Visit London has increased its drive to bring more Chinese visitors to the British capital by signing a historic agreement with the Guangzhou tourism authorities. The Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality has agreed to team up with Visit London to share best practice in tourism promotion and organise exchange visits. Both organisations hope to improve mutual understanding of each other`s culture and target markets, resulting in an increased number of visitors between the two destinations.

Visit London recently signed a similar agreement with Shanghai during a visit to China by the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. The Mayor has opened offices in Shanghai and Beijing to encourage even greater contact between the cities across tourism, inward investment, education and the creative industries.

Signing the agreement with Guangzhou Province at World Travel Market, Visit London`s Chief Executive James Bidwell said: London and China`s growing relationship will be of crucial importance in the next decade and beyond. Like the Olympic spirit which seeks to embrace the nations of the world, both London and Guangzhou are reaching out to improve mutual understanding between their people. I am delighted that we will be working closely together in the coming years.

The wording of the agreement is as follows:

Agreement of mutual co-operation between Visit London and the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality
The Mayor of London’s tourism agency, Visit London and the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality wish to further enhance their relationship for the mutual benefit of both cities inbound tourism business
This agreement will be reviewed on a yearly basis

Visit London and the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality establish this agreement with the aim to primarily work together to share ideas and best practice on domestic and international tourism promotion.

Visit London and the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality see this co-operative agreement as one which can further both cities understanding of their target markets and increase cultural understanding for mutual benefit.

Visit London and the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality agree to exchange visits between London and Guangzhou to enhance our relationship and facilitate further opportunities for dialogue and the creation of ideas, share ideas and best practice for tourism.
