Hong Kong Airlines will sponsor a year of free flights for any Hong Kong Paralympians that win a gold medal at the London 2012 Games.

The Hong Kong Paralympic team will arrive in London for the 2012 Games on Hong Kong Airlines all Club Class jet, following the airlines appointment as official carrier for the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (HKPC&SAPD).

The all Club Class A330-200 aircraft, operating daily between London and Hong Kong, features spacious and comfortable seating. This unique environment fully accommodates the special needs of the Paralympic athletes, ensuring that they arrive energetic, refreshed and ready to compete.

In addition, Hong Kong Airlines will sponsor a year of free flights for any Hong Kong Paralympians that win a gold medal at the London 2012 Games.  The team already have an outstanding record, claiming five gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals at the 2008 Bejing Paralympic Games.

Mr. Yang Jiang Hong, President of Hong Kong Airlines said, “Hong Kong Airlines takes great pride in being a Hong Kong based airline. Since our establishment in 2006, we have made it our mission and our passion to serve the local community and to facilitate the development of the local aviation industry. It is a true honour and privilege to be selected as the official carrier for HKPC&SAPD as it is testament to our excellent service quality and modern, innovative fleet. On behalf of the entire crew at Hong Kong Airlines, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Hong Kong Paralympic team the very best as they go for gold in the coming London 2012 Paralympic Games in August.”

Mrs. Jenny Fung, Chairman of HKPC&SAPD, said, “The sponsorship programme initiated by Hong Kong Airlines is an excellent example of corporate social responsibility. By sponsoring tickets, the company will significantly alleviate the costs associated with funding athletes for overseas training programmes and competitions. More importantly, it opens up more opportunities for athletes to participate in overseas competitions to gain important race and competition experience and enhance the standard. On behalf of HKPC&SAPD and the athletes, I would like to convey our appreciation once again for Hong Kong Airlines’ support.”

Committed to supporting the long term development for local disabled athletes, Hong Kong Airlines has also launched the “Fly & Care” scheme, a charitable initiative to raise funds for HKPC&SAPD and its athletes. From 1st August 2012 to 30th April 2013, the crew of all Hong Kong Airlines flights will collect donations from passengers. All proceeds will go to HKPC&SAPD to fund athletes for training programmes, competitions and preparations for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

The partnership between Hong Kong Airlines and the HKPC&SAPD was announced during a press conference officiated by President Yang and Jenny Fung. Various Hong Kong Paralympians were also present to witness Hong Kong Airlines’ commitment to the development and support of the territory’s disabled athletes.
