Melbourne Airport unveils T4 terminal upgrade

The Pier F expansion is part of Melbourne Airport’s commitment to enhancing the traveller journey.

Melbourne Airport
has revealed its new-look Terminal 4 (T4) gate-lounge precinct to travellers flying on Tigerair.

The enhancements made to the end of Pier F, almost doubled the space by adding 1,600m2 creating a 2,000m2 area equivalent to two Olympic-size swimming pools. Other upgrades include more seating, additional toilet facilities, lift access and improved wayfinding.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Simon Gandy said the Pier F expansion is part of Melbourne Airport’s commitment to enhancing the traveller journey.

“At Melbourne Airport we are continuing to exceed the industry’s growth expectations and are on target for annual passenger numbers to reach 60 million by 2033. In the past 12 months alone, more than 10 million passengers travelled through Terminal 4, making it a very busy domestic hub,” Mr Gandy said.

“We are proud to deliver the final part of the T4 upgrade to support Tigerair’s growth and improved customer proposition. In the coming months we look forward to unveiling a number of other significant infrastructure upgrades including an eighth baggage carousel in our international terminal and our new T2 Luxury Precinct.”

“Melbourne Airport is a vitally important strategic asset for Victoria and we look forward to working closely with our airlines to provide the right infrastructure at the right time for our travellers.”

Tigerair Australia Head of Communications Vanessa Regan says this is a major milestone for the airline and its customers.

“Terminal 4 offers a significantly enhanced and seamless customer experience at our busiest port. Our customers are telling us they love these new state of the art facilities here at Terminal 4 and that’s important given Tigerair is an airline that evolves based on consumer demand,” Ms Regan said.

“We are thrilled to call Victoria home and proud of the contribution we make to the State, enabling more people to fly than ever before. Last year alone we flew nearly three million passengers in and out of Melbourne Airport.

“The Tigerair brand is all about value, choice and innovation – all of which are complemented perfectly at the new-look Terminal 4. Our customer satisfaction has climbed over recent years and we have no doubt that the new gate facilities for Tigerair customers here at Melbourne Airport’s Terminal 4 will lift Tigerair customer satisfaction further.

“I congratulate the team at Melbourne Airport on the completion of this project. The redeveloped Terminal 4 is a huge step change for our customers and supports future planned growth of Tigerair, which is always in line with consumer demand.”

To celebrate the completion of the upgraded facilities, Tigerair management and cabin crew will be at Terminal 4’s Tigerair departure gates today, handing out gifts to passengers travelling on the same day that airline celebrates flying its 24 millionth customer.

The lucky 24 millionth Tigerair customer travelling from Melbourne will be greeted at the departure lounge and presented with a $500 travel voucher for future use on the Tigerair network.
