Be a Great Barrier Reef scientist for a day

Passengers could become a scientist for the day to help the Foundation and the Great Barrier Reef Citizen Science Alliance achieve a snapshot of the health and life of the World Heritage area.

Passions of Paradise will offer citizen science activities with the Cairns company’s diving and snorkelling tours on October 29 as part of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation’s 2016 ReefBlitz.

Environmental Sustainability Coordinator Russell Hosp said passengers could become a scientist for the day to help the Foundation and the Great Barrier Reef Citizen Science Alliance achieve a snapshot of the health and life of the World Heritage area.

“The public can assist groups from the Alliance, including CoralWatch and Reef Check Australia, No Limit Adventures and the Yirrganydji Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program who will be on board the Passions of Paradise catamaran on October 29.”

“We will show passengers how to participate in citizen science activities, such as the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Eye on the Reef Rapid Monitoring programme.”

“Those involved in the 2016 ReefBlitz will gain a better understanding of what can be done to help improve the scientific body of knowledge about the Great Barrier Reef.”

“The information collected on the day will contribute to a people-powered snapshot of the Great Barrier Reef to be analysed by scientists.”

“Passions of Paradise is committed to protecting the Great Barrier Reef and educating passengers about its World Heritage values through programs such as ReefBlitz.”

“We want every passenger to leave with a story about protecting the Great Barrier Reef so that people around the world care about its future.”
