Iberia and Japan Airlines expand codeshare arrangements on Madrid-Tokyo route

The codeshare and fare launch between the airlines follows the Japanese regulators approval to extend anti-trust immunity to include Iberia in the Joint Business agreement established by British Airways, Finnair and Japan Airlines so that the four airlines can cooperate commercially on flights between Europe and Japan.

MADRID – In preparation for expanding the joint business on flights between Europe and Japan to include Iberia (IB), the Spanish airline and Japan Airlines (JL) have announced the start of codeshare arrangements on the routes operated by Iberia, between Madrid and Tokyo (Narita), as well as the sales of joint fares on applicable routes from 18th of October 2016.

From 21st of September, Iberia (IB) and Japan Airlines (JL), as well as British Airways (BA) and Finnair (AY), started sales of joint fares on the new services. The fares may be purchased from any of the partner airlines and may also be combined with existing joint business partners’ fares.
 
The codeshare and fare launch between the airlines follows the Japanese regulators approval to extend anti-trust immunity to include Iberia in the Joint Business agreement established by British Airways, Finnair and Japan Airlines so that the four airlines can cooperate commercially on flights between Europe and Japan. The new route Madrid-Tokyo and Iberia’s integration in the Joint Business agreement will provide customers with a larger network, more travel options and more Frequent Flyer benefits. It will also strengthen the oneworld services in Japan, one of the world’s biggest economies.
 
Together Iberia, British Airways, Finnair and Japan Airlines offer around 76 non-stop flights per week during summer between European cities such as Madrid, London, Frankfurt, Helsinki and Paris to Japan. In Japan, the both Tokyo Narita and Haneda airports, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. Japan Airlines offer connecting flights to 59 cities across Japan.
