Twenty three countries issued travel advisory for Thailand

The recent bombing at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, Thailand has prompted 23 countries to issue a travel advisory for its citizens, at level 3. Hong Kong issued a level 4 travel advisory as many citizens of Hong Kong where among the casualties.

Twenty three counties issued travel advisories over travel to Thai capital, after the bomb blast on Monday. Hong Kong published a red alert for Bangkok, the second highest of the government’s three-tier system, as two Hong Kong residents were among those killed, according to Thai police.

Chinese, Hong Kong, Singaporean, Indonesian and Malaysian citizens were among the 20 people confirmed killed when the explosion sent a fireball into the sky of Bangkok.

The China National Tourism Administration ordered its Singapore office, which is tasked with handling tourism matters in South-east Asia, “to assist the injured in their medical treatment” and called on tour guides to remain alert and help Chinese tourists avert danger.

U.S. Citizens are encouraged to enlist in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program or STEP with the state department so that their presence in Bangkok will be known to the U.S. embassy. “U.S. citizens without Internet access may enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. By enrolling, you make it easier for the U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you in case of an emergency,” announced the U.S. Embassy.

Australians in Thailand warned to stay away from Chidlom district. The Australian government updated its travel advice on the “Smart Traveller” website to inform travelers of Monday night’s blast, in order to exercise a high degree of caution travelling in the country, and to follow the advice of local authorities.

In Manila, the Foreign Ministry advised Filipinos in Bangkok “to remain calm and to observe necessary precautions to ensure their personal safety”.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of United Kingdom advised against all but essential travel to the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla on the Thai-Malaysia border. “A bomb exploded at 7pm on 17 August 2015 at the Ratchprasong intersection next to the Erawan shrine in central Bangkok. The police have confirmed casualties, including the death of a British national. There are reports of a further small explosion on 18 August near the Saphan Taksin Sky Train station in central Bangkok. There are no reports of casualties. The British Embassy is in contact with local authorities. You should monitor news reports, follow the advice of the local authorities and take extra care,” reports the site of FCO.

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United States have issued a “Level 2” advisory, while other nations, such as Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia and the United Kingdom have issued “Level 3”.
