Tourism Australia confirms Destination Development appointment

In her new role, Ms Droga will also become part of Tourism Australia’s Executive Leadership Team.

SYDNEY – Tourism Australia has confirmed the appointment of Katherine Droga as its new General Manager Destination Development, a move aimed at further strengthening the organisation’s capabilities in supply-side tourism and partnership development.

Ms Droga will lead a team responsible for industry development, investment attraction and aviation capacity as well as running Tourism Australia’s Indigenous tourism, national landscapes, Best of Australia and trade events programs.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said Ms Droga’s strong tourism background and track record at Tourism Australia together with her understanding of destination marketing both within Australia and overseas were key factors in being appointed into the role.

“Katherine is known for her stakeholder management, negotiation skills and great knowledge and understanding of tourism and our business. Her track record is ideally suited for the Destination Development role, increasing the focus on our relationships with industry and helping move towards achieving our Tourism 2020 goals,” he said.

Ms Droga said she was extremely excited to be taking on the new role and was looking forward to applying her skills and experience to a fresh challenge. She takes up the Sydney-based role with immediate effect.

Ms Droga is a long serving member of Tourism Australia after having joined the national tourism organisation in February 2005 as Manager Australian Marketing. She was promoted to Regional General Manager, Continental Europe where she spent four years in Frankfurt. Last year she returned to Sydney and was appointed as General Manager Partnership Development.

Ms Droga replaces Craig Davidson who left Tourism Australia at the end of August to head up the Theme Parks division for Ardent Leisure.
