Trip.com to host “Super World Tour BOSS LIVE” livestream in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

Trip.com’s livestream in Bangkok aims to boost inbound Thai tourism, featuring special deals and engaging with a global audience.

BANGKOK, THAILAND – Trip.com announced it will host a “Super World Tour BOSS LIVE” livestream show in Bangkok, Thailand, on 31 January 2024. The two-hour livestream session, organised together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism & Sports to promote inbound tourism to the Kingdom, will be streamed from Rosewood Bangkok and feature deals including for flights, accommodations and tour packages to Thailand.

The livestream show will be hosted by Trip.com Group’s Vice President Ms Sun Tianxu, who has hosted more than 200 livestream sessions over the past four years. The livestream will highlight Thailand as a leading travel destination for its lively entertainment scene, beautiful islands, vibrant culture, and delectable cuisine, especially for the upcoming Spring Festival festive period.

Guests on the livestream show will include Thailand’s Prime Minister Mr Srettha Thavisin, the Minister of Tourism and Sports Ms Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, as well as the Governor of the TAT Ms Thapanee Kiatphaibool.

Livestreaming is an innovative way of highlighting what Thailand has to offer and engaging with Chinese travellers, while gaining insight into tourist preferences and interests. Thailand was the top Southeast Asian destination for Chinese travellers in 2023 according to our data, and is expected to remain a key tourist destination this year,” said Ms Sun.

Ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities and the Songkran Festival which was recently designated an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, coupled with the commencement of permanent visa-free travel between China and Thailand in March 2024, this livestream event is one of many marketing initiatives that we have planned for Thailand this year. We look forward to our continued partnership with the TAT to bring more tourists to the Land of Smiles,” she added.

Trip.com Group launched its “Super World Trip” livestream series at the start of 2023, where the first livestream – also held in Thailand – achieved a gross merchandise value (GMV) of RMB 40 million and saw over 20,000 nights of room bookings being sold. Subsequent livestream shows in markets such as Tokyo and Hong Kong took off and generated notable inbound travel demand. It is part of the Group’s BOSS Live series of livestream sessions, an initiative led by Trip.com Group co-founder and Executive Chairman James Liang to bolster the travel industry in 2020, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. These sessions have generated a cumulative transaction volume of more than USD1.48 billion and attracted a total audience of over 1 billion global viewers.

Thailand is a key market for Trip.com Group, and its business there has grown significantly over the past few years. Bangkok was the most popular destination in Southeast Asia last year, while Phuket and Chiang Mai were also in the Top 10. Booking volume for the upcoming Spring Festival increased by 235% compared to last year’s Spring Festival, with GMV over the same period surging by 375%. Interest in Thailand has also increased, as evidenced by the rise in search volume for Thailand on the Group’s platforms. In 2023, the number of searches for Thailand grew by 124.4% YoY, and was almost 200% higher than 2019 levels. There was also a notable spike after the announcement of a permanent visa waiver between Thailand and China, with searches for flights from Shanghai and Beijing to Bangkok jumping by more than 40%, while China-related searches on Trip.com’s Thai platform soared by over 80%.
