Sarawak Tourism Board celebrates a 216.74% increase in UK visitors and announces a strategic collaboration with National Geographic Traveller and TripAdvisor.

The Sarawak Tourism Board announced its presence at this year’s World Travel Market, led by YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism,

Creative Industry, and Performing Arts. 2023 represents an exceptional period of growth in tourism and the initiation of several exciting brand marketing collaborations.

The spotlight shines on Sarawak as it celebrates an outstanding surge in visitor arrivals from the United Kingdom during the first nine months of 2023. In this period, 18,833 UK visitors experienced the captivating charm and authentic eco-tourism offerings of Sarawak. This astonishing figure signifies a remarkable 216.74% increase in UK visitor arrivals compared to the same period in 2022 when 5,944 visitors were recorded.

YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, expressed his enthusiasm about this significant increase.

The surge in UK visitor arrivals is a testament to Sarawak’s charm and its growing popularity as a top-tier travel destination. I eagerly anticipate engaging with the UK’s travel trade and media at this year’s WTM to discuss our exciting developments and future plans.”, he said.

In an exciting development, Sarawak is set to reveal its new campaign with National Geographic Traveller (UK). The campaign brings forth an informative series of eight articles and six one-minute videos on National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s website. Visitors to Sarawak’s website will be able to book via a partnership with TripAdvisor by accessing a dedicated landing page on TripAdvisor’s platform, simplifying the process of booking their preferred tourism experiences. This compelling campaign is slated to run until April 2024.

The Minister further emphasised the significance of this collaboration, “We are thrilled to be working with National Geographic Traveller (UK) on these articles and are pleased to separately be partnering with TripAdvisor to deliver the fulfilment on tourism arrivals from the UK market. This collaboration perfectly aligns with Sarawak’s unique culture and natural beauty by highlighting our compelling Sarawak tourism offerings such as our orangutan conservation efforts through the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre; Niah National Park; our gastronomic heritage, our rich handicraft and our efforts in responsible tourism. We eagerly anticipate sharing the wonders of Sarawak with our worldwide audience, enabling travellers to discover and experience the magic of this incredible place.”
