Qantas celebrates Australia Day in New York

Qantas celebrated Australia Day in New York and promoted Australia to Americans.

NEW YORK – Qantas together with the Australian Consulate-General New York, Deborra-lee Furness and Hugh Jackman held an event to celebrate Australia Day in New York.

Qantas Senior Executive Vice President of The Americas Vanessa Hudson said Australia Day represented the ideal opportunity to promote Australia to Americans.

“As Australia’s national carrier, we are committed to promoting Australia and marketing its unique tourism attractions to Americans each year,” said Ms. Hudson.

“Qantas has been flying to the U.S. for 60 years, and we continue to look at new and innovative ways to entice Americans to our shores. This means expanding our network of destinations around the United States and delivering world-class service for our customers because a Qantas flight is always part of the Australian experience.

“To capitalize on tonight’s event and subsequent awareness of Australia Day, we have initiated another targeted sales campaign across the U.S. today to increase bookings to Australia.”

In 2012 Qantas hosted Oprah to Australia and The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013, and next month will fly the cast of Modern Family to Australia to film their holiday episode.

Qantas operates double daily A380 services from Los Angeles to Sydney and Melbourne, a daily B747 service from Los Angeles to Brisbane, a daily B747 New York Sydney service and daily B747 Dallas to Sydney service.

Qantas is also the only carrier to operate A380 services with four cabins between the U.S. and Australia, and the award winning lie flat Business Skybed onboard its reconfigured B747 services.
