AEG OGDEN announces new General Manager at Darwin Convention Centre

AEG Ogden is a joint venture between Australian venue management interests and AEG Facilities of the United States.

DARWIN – AEG Ogden announced that Janet Hamilton will replace Malu Barrios as the General Manager of the Darwin Convention Centre.

Ms Barrios was recently appointed the General Manager of the Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island which will operate for three years while the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney at Darling Harbour is under construction.

AEG Ogden manages the Darwin and Glebe Island facilities and has been appointed operator of ICC Sydney.

Ms Hamilton has served the past four years as the Manager of External Relations for Energy Resources of Australia (ERA), based in Darwin. Her role included the management of government relations, sponsorships and media issues for the Ranger mine.

Prior to moving to the Territory, Ms Hamilton had extensive major event and project management experience with the Sydney Olympic Organising Committee, the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and Melbourne’s Docklands precinct.

In 2008, Ms Hamilton was Key Project Manager for the National Australia Banks’ 150th anniversary project, delivering a 12 month national programme of events and marketing initiatives.

Announcing her appointment AEG Ogden’s Director of Convention Centres, Geoff Donaghy said Ms Hamilton’s strong marketing and major event background and understanding of Territory issues ensures she is ideally qualified to take the Darwin Convention Centre to the next level.

He also paid tribute to the outstanding efforts of Ms Barrios in establishing Darwin as one of Australia’s leading convention centres in just five years.

“Opening a new centre is always a major challenge. But the recognition Darwin has received both nationally and internationally in such a short time is testament to Malu’s dedication, commitment and abilities,” Mr Donaghy said.

AEG Ogden manages venues throughout the Asia Pacific region, including convention centres in Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Kuala Lumpur, Qatar, Oman (under construction), Sydney (construction commencing  2014 and the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island (from February 2014); arenas including Sydney’s Allphones Arena, the Sydney Entertainment Centre (from December 2013), the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Perth Arena;  Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane; and live theatres including Perth’s His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth Concert Hall, the WA State Theatre Centre, Albany Entertainment Centre, and Subiaco Arts Centre.
