The Minister for Small Business & Tourism, Hon Fran Bailey MP, will officially open the region’s largest event for business tourism in Melbourne. AIME 2006, 14th AsiaPacific Incentives & Meetings Expo, is at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 & 7 June. It is expected to generate more than US$590 million in direct bookings of business events in Australia and the surrounding regions.

Australia holds 316,000 business events each year for 28.4 million delegates with total spending by delegates of more than $17 billion. 88,500 events are held in Victoria at 360 venues, contributing $1.2 billion to the Victorian economy and impacting regional Victoria to the tune of $780 million.?

AIME was established by Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau in 1993 and it is the largest event of its kind in Asia Pacific region.

More than 440 buyers of convention and incentive business from 27 countries, including more than 270 from around Australia will be hosted to the event. Approximately 50 media representatives will also attend AIME 2006.

The exhibition includes 850 exhibitors from 50 countries with 80% of exhibitors coming from the Asia Pacific region. Tourism and convention bureaux, convention and exhibition centres, airlines, hotels and venues from throughout Asia are among the many exhibitors.
