Tiger Airways Australia returns to Cairns

Tiger Airways Australia resumes its Melbourne to Cairns service with a daily morning departure from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) and early afternoon return flight from Cairns.

Following the recent announcement of its new Sydney base and last week’s news that Tiger will resume regular services to Hobart, the airline will commence operating a daily daytime return service between Melbourne and Cairns from tomorrow.

“Tiger continues to spread its wings and our return to Cairns is another Australian milestone to add to the list,” said Andrew David, Tiger Airways Australia CEO.

“In 2011 Cairns was voted the fastest growing domestic route in Australia so it should come as no surprise that we are responding to customer demand and in the process helping to level the competitive playing field,” said Mr. David.

“Tiger has worked closely with Tourism Queensland/Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Cairns Airport and we are thrilled to bring back a service that will support North Queensland’s local economy and community.”

Mr. David added that great value airfares along with Tiger’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence and industry leading on time performance make for a compelling product for Australian and overseas tourists who want to visit Cairns and the various world class attractions it offers, such as the Great Barrier Reef.

As the airline continues to grow, further network expansion plans are anticipated.

“There are many other destinations around Australia which are keen for Tiger’s return,” concluded Mr. David. “We continue to talk to our tourism and airport partners around the country and will be making further announcements in due course.”
