Emirates boosts Western Australia’s global reach with a second daily flight to Perth, increasing inbound seats and reinforcing Perth’s status as Australia’s key Western Gateway, supported by government partnerships.

Emirates, the leading international airline, has announced a significant enhancement to its flight operations in Australia. Starting in December, the airline will reintroduce a second daily flight between Dubai and Perth, a move set to substantially increase Western Australia‘s accessibility to global markets.

Key Highlights of the Service
  • Increased Inbound Capacity: The resumed service is expected to introduce over 129,000 new inbound seats to Western Australia annually, substantially boosting the state’s tourism and business prospects.
  • Government and Airport Collaboration: This expansion is supported by the Western Australian Government through the $75 million Aviation Recovery Fund, in collaboration with Perth Airport, demonstrating a strong commitment to reviving the region’s aviation sector.
  • Aircraft Utilization: The service will operate using a Boeing 777-300ER, complementing Emirates’ existing Airbus A380 service, and offering passengers a choice of experiences.
  • Strategic Global Hub: Dubai, known for its international transport connections, will facilitate increased travel options for Western Australian travelers, particularly from key tourism markets in Continental Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Impact on Western Australia’s Aviation Landscape
  • Recovery Post-COVID: As of December 2023, Perth’s international aviation capacity has rebounded to 94% of its pre-COVID levels. The state is on a positive trajectory to fully restore its aviation capacity before the end of the financial year.
  • Western Gateway Status: Western Australia’s prominence as Australia’s Western Gateway has seen remarkable growth. The state now boasts direct flight connections with 19 global destinations, further enhancing its appeal as a major travel and business hub.
  • Unique Non-Stop Connections: Western Australia stands out as the only Australian region offering non-stop aviation links to the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. This includes existing services to London and Rome, and the anticipated launch of a direct Perth-Paris service.

Acting Tourism Minister John Carey said: “Today’s announcement represents another important step forward in rebuilding WA’s aviation capacity and further strengthens Perth’s global reputation as the Western Gateway to Australia.

“Securing additional direct aviation services is absolutely vital to driving more travellers to our State, injecting visitor spend into our economy, and creating jobs in the tourism and hospitality industries

“We’re really proud to have brought back or secured new non-stop flights to 19 global cities since borders reopened, and this is just another vote of confidence in WA as a tourism destination.”

Emirates’ decision to launch a second daily flight to Perth is a strategic move that aligns with the growing demand for international travel and tourism in Western Australia. This development not only reinforces Perth’s position as a key player in the global aviation sector but also showcases the state’s attractiveness as a destination for tourists and business travelers alike. With the collaborative efforts of the Western Australian Government and Perth Airport, Emirates is set to play a pivotal role in the state’s ongoing aviation recovery and its aspiration to be a world-class gateway to and from Australia.
