Hananui and Tokoeka PurePods open

Hananui PurePod, look-through view.

These two PurePods are a 15-minute scenic flight from Invercargill or a 60-minute ferry ride from Bluff and take unforgettable to the next level.

PurePods expand their network of sustainable glass cabins into Rakiura Stewart Island within a conservation reserve and the southernmost Dark Sky Sanctuary. Hananui and Tokoeka, luxurious glass eco-cabins on Rakiura Stewart Island, welcomed guests as of 1st October 2022.

Hananui and Tokoeka PurePods are nestled within the wild that is the untouched region of Rakiura Stewart Island, behind a predator-proof fence amongst the majesty of the most southern Dark Sky Sanctuary. They are perfectly positioned to take full advantage of the stunning skyscape views, turquoise sea and white sand beaches. Brimming with birdsong, wildlife and lush fauna these are just a few of the wonders in store for guests.

These two PurePods are a 15-minute scenic flight from Invercargill or a 60-minute ferry ride from Bluff and take unforgettable to the next level.

PurePods chief executive Stephanie Hassall says, “it has been hard to keep this one under our hats given it is such a unique and special location. We could not be more excited to launch our first PurePods in Rakiura Stewart Island within Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve. Being located behind a predator-proof fence and with special red lighting that allows kiwi spotting at night from the deck or bed of the PurePods really is a phenomenal opportunity.”

“Hananui and Tokoeka bring the number of PurePod locations to 11, and we are just getting started.

“Hananui PurePod has spectacular views across Lee Bay and spans out towards Hananui or Mount Anglem. Cocooned in the bush, surrounded by the cacophony of birdsong under skies is and experience like no other, our guests are in for a real treat,” said Ms Hassall. Like the other PurePod locations, they are deliberately free of a wi-fi connection, private and environmentally friendly. “Privacy is assured at the Rakiura PurePods due to them being tucked away behind the predator-proof fence,” said Ms Hassall.

Hananui and Tokoeka PurePods have minimal impact on the natural environment while offering a luxurious way to experience nature. The PurePod uses sustainable energy, minimising the use of non-renewable energy sources. Rainwater that falls on the roof is returned to the surrounding area to water the native plants.

If guests can tear themselves away from the luxurious comforts of Hananui or Tokoeka PurePod, there’s so much to enjoy on Rakiura Stewart Island. With beaches to explore, walking tracks and guided tours on and off the water you can’t but marvel at the wilderness on your doorstep.

Both Hananui and Tokoeka PurePods have all the facilities guests require, including a fabulous shower, flush toilet, luxurious queen-size bed with crisp linen, cooking and eating equipment; as well as an assortment of games, local reference books, and a telescope.
