World Travel Catering and Onboard Services ‘hits the spot’

The crucial role of catering and onboard services in enhancing the passenger experience was demonstrated by the successful launch of World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE), which was staged at Hamburg Messe from 27 – 29 March 2012.

Organised by Reed Exhibitions and co-located with the organiser’s highly successful Aircraft Interiors Expo, WTCE is the world’s largest travel catering exhibition. The event, which caters for the needs of food, beverage and passenger products buyers from across the travel industry, attracted a high calibre visitor audience, reflecting the rising expectations of today’s rail, air and sea passengers.

Aimed at enhancing the overall experience for travellers from economy class to VVIP, more than 180 exhibitors presented a wealth of products and services from luxurious in-flight amenities and entertaining amusements for children to the highest quality food and drink. Visitors to the show were also presented with the industry’s latest plans to address and alleviate those avoidable aggravations often associated with travel.

“The show has really hit the spot” said a satisfied Helen Cooper of Grasshopper Products, whose appetising assortment of practically packaged porridges are designed to meet active passenger demand for straightforward sustenance. “Consumers have become increasingly conscious of what they are eating – now they no longer have to change their healthy habits just because they are travelling”.

A range of refreshing solutions to common travel concerns such as jet lag and dehydration has also been developed by Dutch company, Vitalit. Among the attractive assortment of healthy drinks, nutritional bars and Vitamin C ‘shots’ that were showcased on the Vitalit stand, the company used WTCE to launch its latest drink, the Fly Fit Flow. Backed by in-depth scientific research conducted by the international life science company DSM, the Fly Fit Flow is designed to combat the negative effects of flying, and contributes to healthy blood flow.

Eric Veeneman of Vitalit commented “WTCE has generated a lot of attention in Vitalit’s preservative-free products, especially from international airlines. Our stand has been really busy and provided the perfect platform for holding pre arranged appointments as well as meeting exciting new visitors”.

Catering for customers across the travel industry Asian Pioneer’s simple, sensible solutions for onboard services included a stylish digital tablet case and a newspaper holder for trolleys. The company has found WTCE an ideal opportunity to meet existing customers and key new clients from both airlines and railways.

Innovation was also top of the menu at ipi, whose brightly coloured children’s cutlery sets and clever catering creations caught the eye of many visitors. “It’s a real advantage to be co-located with Aircraft Interiors Expo” said Jean-Louis Revel, the company’s president directeur General “I think the show has a very bright future”.

John Hyde, WTCE event director confirmed: “We have been delighted by the enthusiastic response and support received from both visitors and exhibitors at the first World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo. Together with Aircraft Interiors Expo, we are dedicated to providing a complete passenger experience package to suit the every demand of today’s passenger. This year’s WTCE exhibition floor clearly demonstrated the impressive amount of  innovation currently taking place on the travel catering and onboard services scene and we look forward to having more dynamic, enthusiastic and creative insight into the industry at next year’s event that takes place at the Hamburg Messe from 9-11 April 2013”
