Vietnam Airlines winter flight schedule is less ambitious than previously announced

As the economy is slowing down in both Vietnam and major incoming markets, Vietnam Airlines has adjusted its winter timetable with many new frequencies being now cancelled.

HANOI- A few changes have been introduced by national carrier Vietnam Airlines in its winter schedule. Additional changes are possible with a few more routes being added over the end of the year. The new Ho Chi Minh City-Jakarta route, due to start on October 28, has now been postponed to December 2. The carrier will then offer five weekly frequencies between both cities. Chengdu has been less lucky. The 3 weekly-service resumption from Hanoi to the capital city of Sichuan has been totally cancelled. A same fate is shared by the flight Hanoi-Vientiane. Due to be converted from one to a twice-daily frequency, the second daily flight has now been indefinitely cancelled.

However, the carrier increases its frequencies from Hanoi to Nagoya (5 times/week); to Seoul Incheon (from 11 to 14 weekly flights) and from Hanoi to Siem Reap from 25 to 39 weekly flights. However, flight capacity increase is always implemented during the winter season, which is the peak season for travellers to Cambodia. The airline also boosts its frequencies to Yangon with a daily flight from Hanoi instead of five weekly flights. Out of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Airlines increased the total number of services to Hong Kong from daily to 10 weekly while the route Ho Chi Minh City-Siem Reap will be served 3 times per day instead of 2 daily in the previous airline’s timetable. The carrier adds also two additional frequencies on the HCMC-Bangkok route, offering 16 flights per week.

On the domestic front, Vietnam Airlines launched on October 28 four weekly frequencies between Danang and Vinh. Flights are operated with an ATR72 aircraft.
