In recognition of his creative vision and keen business sense, Jerry Pi, chief operating officer and director of global operations, Pi Associates, which manages Victoria Cruises, the cruise line sailing China’s Yangtze River, was named one of the “Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business” by the Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC).

This award was created to acknowledge the individual accomplishments of Asian Americans in business and industry today. Jerry Pi’s recognition marks the second consecutive year a member of the Pi Associates/Victoria Cruises team was bestowed this distinction (James Pi, president, was honored last year).

It’s an honor to be included in such an impressive and visionary group of individuals who channel their energy and ideas into great business prosperity,” said Jerry Pi. “I’m extremely proud of the work and subsequent success of Pi Associates and Victoria Cruises, and I look forward to our future tourism, real estate and film-processing endeavors.”

Pi began his career with Victoria Cruises as a cruise director from 1995 – 1997 and engaged himself in every facet of the business. Then, after several years as a developer, consultant and team leader for BTS Incorporated, a strategy consultant firm, he returned to Victoria Cruises in 2002 when the company was retiring its older ships and gearing up for its new generation of larger and more elaborate vessels.

“In addition to our incredible product, we maintain a team of qualified, dedicated individuals who know the cruise business and exhibit keen savvy and exciting ideas in propelling us forward,” Pi commented. “Our on-board team of cruise staff and cruise directors are vital to our success because they are on the front line with our valued passengers and the reason we can proclaim such superior levels of service and hospitality.”

Jerry’s father, James Pi, launched Victoria Cruises in 1994 with the similar goal of introducing the majesty of the Yangtze River to a global audience with a high-caliber cruise product that allows people to travel along the “River of Heaven.”

Pi’s short-term goal is to gear up for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the influx of travelers to the region and potential business for Victoria Cruises. In the long-term, he intends to diversify the product to keep it fresh and interesting with more ships (based on demand), innovative on-board features, and new shore excursions to explore areas that are now accessible (or will be accessible) because of rising waters and the Three Gorges Dam project.
