On Monday, 8 May 2017, Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), received the new Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Dangerous Goods Certificate from Mr. Chula Sukmanop, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), at a ceremony presided by Mr. Arkhom Termpittiyapaisith, Minister of Transport, at Suvarnabhumi Room A, Novotel Suvarnabhumi Hotel.
Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, THAI Acting President, said that THAI is proud to have participated in problem resolution following the audit of Thai civil aviation units by the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP). This is the due to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) red flag on Thailand, whereby THAI agreed to receive a new Air Operator Certificate in accordance with ICAO standards. THAI is the first and only airline in Thailand to receive both a new Air Operator Certificate and Dangerous Goods Certificate, which proves that THAI has the potential to carry passengers, agricultural products, fresh food, and other safety control items. These certificates help support Thailand’s strategy to be the aviation and logistics hub for the region. THAI expresses its utmost thanks to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) for granting support and sharing experiences, which enabled THAI to receive certification within the established time frame. As a result of the cooperation, Thailand’s aviation standards were also successfully elevated.
For 57 years, THAI as the national carrier of Thailand remains committed to safe air travel in accordance with international aviation standards. In 2017, THAI began its Safety Beyond Compliance Program in order to elevate its safety standards, which include work standards, operational manuals, and other materials. The Company’s training programs were also redeveloped according to international standards, in preparation for ICAO audits. Throughout the past two years, evaluation results have been excellent, which reflects THAI’s ability to elevate safety standards to European Union levels that are considered the highest in the aviation industry. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has granted approval for THAI to continue operating flights into Europe as a Third Country Operator (TCO).
