TAT launches “Follow the King’s Philosophy toward sustainable tourism”

The Project applies the concept of human development and economic development following the principle of "Sufficiency Economy Philosophy" and the principles of understanding, approaching, and developing to develop the areas in 4 communities.

”Follow the King’s Philosophy toward sustainable tourism” project was officially introduced with the cooperation of Tourism Authority of Thailand and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in order to create the sustainability in tourism by applying His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej‘s principles of understanding, approaching, and developing to create the sustainability in tourism of Thailand especially from experiences in the local communities.

Mr. Yutthasak Supphasorn, Tourism Authority of Thailand, stated that “In early 2017, TAT applied the idea of “Local Experience” in the marketing of tourism which resulted in the increase of both Thai and foreign tourists traveling to many provinces. There’s a tendency for this to gradually expand. In addition, the government has the policy for the agencies to apply the SEP (Sufficiency Economy Philosophy) or the “King’s Philosophy” to form the economic foundation for SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Thus, TAT applies the King’s Philosophy in managing the tourist areas by focusing on the community tourism for sustainable growth.”

Ms. Nadia Rasheed, the management representative of United Nations Development Program in Asia and Pacific Regions said, “We are very honored to cooperate with TAT. The main mission is to develop the communities in order for them to generate the income on their own and to have sustainable living”. Khun Phannin Kittipharaphorn, President of Siam Niramit Co., Ltd. stated, “As I like to travel, I am very glad to see TAT reaching out and promotes the community tourism. Apart from increasing the revenue for the community, it will be the propagation for the new tourist attractions as well.”

The Project applies the concept of human development and economic development following the principle of “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” and the principles of understanding, approaching, and developing to develop the areas in 4 communities; Ban Pong Huay Lan Community, Chiang Mai Province, Ban Nong San Community, SakonNakhon Province, Rim Nam Janthabun Community, Janthaburi Province, and the communities around the area of Nong Yai royal initiative development project in Chumpon Province. The information is accumulated as we enhance the knowledge, understanding, and approaches in the development of resources in the communities for the people in the areas. These approaches will eventually create sustainable touristic communities among local people, farmers and their natural resources. The works from the field visits will be publicized in the exhibition for wider public during 4th– 8th October, 2017 at Emporium Gallery, M floor, Emporium.
