Study reveals Thailand is the #4 Most Popular Destination for 2021

Tourlane polled over 1,200 travelers on how the pandemic affected their travel behavior this year, and what travel trends are emerging for 2021.

BERLIN,GERMANY – Tourlane polled over 1,200 travelers on how the pandemic affected their travel behavior this year, and what travel trends are emerging for 2021.

The questions ranged from booking criteria to the most popular destinations. The results show that most people won’t travel again during 2020. However, the majority of participants rated travel as a top priority for 2021, and a huge wave of bookings is expected in 2021. Thailand ranks fourth among the most popular destinations for 2021.

In October 2020, Tourlane polled around 1,200 travelers between the ages of 18 and 65 to determine the state of travel and current trends for 2021, using a community survey that was distributed via email, social media, and a pop-up. Key findings include:

● Thailand ranks #4 among the top trending destinations for 2021, behind the USA and Canada.
● More than two thirds of international travelers (69%) prefer a destination that offers plentiful outdoor activities.
● Most travelers want to travel for 2 – 3 weeks in the spring or summer of 2021 year (54%).
● 8 out of 10 Germans rated travel as a top priority for 2021, although only 3 in 10 have booked a trip.

All results are available on this study page.

“The survey shows that 2021 will be the year of the great outdoors, so it’s no surprise to see that Thailand, with its incredible range of outdoor activities, is the fourth most popular destination for 2021,” said Helen Scheepers, Head of Sales at Tourlane. “With so many participants rating travel as a top priority for 2021, we’re so excited for the boom in revenge travel to destinations like Thailand that’s on the horizon!”
