Site Executive Summit brings focus to extraordinary experiences in Argentina

For the first time in the history of Site, an Executive summit was held in a South American Country. Set in the majestic Andes mountains of Patagonia, delegates met in the inspirational town of Bariloche, Argentina.

Representing a diverse global footprint (Argentina, Bahamas, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, India, Ireland, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay), a record number of more than 200 professionals specializing in motivational experiences, incentive travel, meetings and congresses joined voices for relevant conversations related to the development of their industry, discussed the latest global trends and considered how to best position Argentina as a destination of choice for motivational events.

“It was an absolutely wonderful event which will stay in our memories as one of the best Site has ever had,” said Alejandro Verzoub, Site President and President of AV Business & Communications in Buenos Aires. “It demonstrated that Argentina has no reason to hide behind other major, international event destinations around the world. I am very proud of the teamwork that was achieved among all of those who participated in making this project a success – many Argentinean Site Members worked together to deliver an exceptional education platform and authentic experiences.”

The Site Executive Summit is a unique educational program focused on bringing global industry conversations and case studies to a region of the world seeking to increase its market presence. The objective is that the professionals in the destination can use the knowledge to increase their business acumen and elevate working relationships so that the region can achieve higher levels of creativity and exceptional program offerings, and ultimately attract more motivational events and incentive travel programs. Topics at the Summit included the reminder that incentive programs exist to inspire and influence behaviors so individual recognition and reward continues to be the top priority for the experience planning, that customer expectations for partners continue to change in key areas, like pricing and risk management plans, and partners must be ready to meet new needs. Destinations should have a prepared idea list to easily incorporate CSR activities or green initiatives, and finally that in the best marketing tactics today partners ‘show’ clients their capabilities vs. ‘telling about’ capabilities.

Site Managing Director Allison Summers commented, “It is truly wonderful to take the Site Executive Summit program to destinations that have so much to offer and can really benefit from the education provided by the local industry leaders and the Site International Board of Directors. The people of South America and Argentina exude warmth and hospitality and genuinely want to introduce the world to the opportunities that exist in the region. During the program I was most impressed when five regional tourist boards stood on stage together to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate for the good of the country’s tourism and meetings and events industry. We wish them nothing but success in their endeavors.”

Besides an attractive educational agenda where all of Site International Board members delivered seminars and participated on panels, the program surprised attendees with a fantastic teambuilding activity called “private eye,” which provided energetic exchanges and great views of Arelauquen Country Club. Other program highlights included a traditional barbecue and folkloric night at Tom Wesley, which was the right opportunity for the visitors to enjoy great cuts of the best meat of the region as well as a navigation to the Victoria Island on board the antique vessel Modesta Victoria. The activity allowed delegates the chance to expand connections, breathe fresh air and enjoy a botanical hike, which concluded with the sounds of a baroque string trio playing cliff side at dusk.

Bariloche, Argentina is a picturesque city in the province of Rio Negro, Argentina, situated in the foothills of the Andes and surrounded by Nahuel Huapi National Park. In 2011, tourism in this region was devastated by a volcanic eruption, but the Site Executive Summit marked that the region was ‘open for business’ and ready to receive groups. This Site Executive Summit was made possible through the hard work of the Site South America Chapter and the generous resources of many organizations including the Bariloche Bureau, INPROTUR, the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina, EMPROTUR, and the Ministry of Tourism of Rio Negro.

Site thanks and recognizes gold sponsors the Alvear Palace Hotel and Faena Universe. Site also extends appreciation to silver sponsors: Rojo Tango, MCI, AV Business & Communication, ATP DMC, Argentina en Colores, Mundo MBA, Mai10, TTS viajes, Furlong Incoming, Aguas Grandes, Grizzlys, Wedgewood, FME antique Cars, and Rubra Eventos.
