Penang career expo “Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja” 2022

Tourism activities were affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, resulting in revenue losses in a range of industries. Business events, tourism, and hospitality industry have all been put on hold, with domestic tourism spending falling for the first time in 13 years.

PENANG, MALAYSIA – The Penang Career Expo “Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja” is hosted as a community initiative by the Penang State Government through Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) which is scheduled to take place on the 9th and 16th of April 2022 at Penang Island and Mainland at St Giles Wembley and Ixora Hotel respectively. Main partners of the expo are the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), the Association of ACTA Tourism Penang (ATAP), Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA) and the Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (MATFA).

Tourism activities were affected by the Covid-19 outbreak, resulting in revenue losses in a range of industries. Business events, tourism, and hospitality industry have all been put on hold, with domestic tourism spending falling for the first time in 13 years.

As a result, a big number of employees were laid off, unemployed, forced to take unpaid leave, and had their pay and benefits reduced, all of which had a significant negative impact on their livelihood. After two years, the country is beginning to recover.

The expo’s goal is to give a platform for job seekers and talent scouts to meet and reconnect, to generate additional work chances, in the tourism industry. With the perspectives of both job seekers and potential employers in mind, Penang Career Expo 2022 is set to address the obstacles of job-seeking at this challenging period in a comprehensive manner.

According to YB Yeoh Soon Hin the Penang state EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, the state government is taking the community initiative in Penang by launching the Penang Career Expo “Ekspo Jom Cari Kerja” which works together with the Penang 2030 industry engagement initiatives.

With both the job seeker and potential employer views in mind, Penang Career Expo 2022 is poised to address retrenchment, unemployment and lower salary and benefits in the tourism sector due to massive profit and revenue losses,” he said.

Exhibitors comprising hotels, travel agencies, attractions, and a variety of other tourism-related enterprises are anticipated as the expo seeks to create an open recruitment platform for industry participants to explore, appraise, and communicate with existing and emerging talent for future hiring and career development.

The Right Honorable Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister Of Penang stated that With new event spaces, hotels and attractions that are being developed in Penang, numerous high-value job opportunities in tourism and hospitality industry have been created for fellow Penangites.

Many young graduates are searching for employment, and potential employers are actively looking for competent individuals. However, due to pandemic’s limits, they may have trouble reaching out to eligible prospects. Hence, the expo will provide a platform for meeting potential employers and may possibly provide the possibility to be hired on the spot.
