Marriott International, Inc. has opened a Courtyard hotel in Chennai, India, under a management agreement with Palm Grove Beach Hotels Pvt. Ltd. The Courtyard by Marriott Chennai is the first Courtyard by Marriott property to open in the country.

“We are delighted by the continued growth of our Courtyard by Marriott brand both in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. We are proud to introduce this widely-acclaimed hotel brand in India,” said Geoff Garside, Marriott’s executive vice president of Asia-Pacific.

Additional Courtyard hotels are expected to open later this year in Paris, France and Manakau City, New Zealand. In 2007, a Courtyard by Marriott hotel will open in Bangkok, Thailand.

Introduced in 1983 in Atlanta, Ga., Courtyard by Marriott now ranks as the 13th largest lodging chain in the world, represented by nearly 700 hotels in 42 states in the United States and located in 22 countries and territories world-wide. As Marriott’s fastest-growing brand, two of every five Courtyards in the next three years will be located outside the continental United States. Currently, the brand offers more than 10,000 rooms outside the United States.

Marriott International, Inc. is currently represented in India by five hotels: the JW Marriott Hotel Mumbai in the luxury tier; the New Delhi Marriott Hotel; Goa Marriott Hotel; the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel & Convention Center in the upscale deluxe tier; and the Lakeside Chalet Marriott Executive Apartments in the upscale extended-stay category. Future openings in the country include the JW Marriott Hotel Bangalore (2007) and the Hyderabad Marriott Hotel (2006).
