Khiri Travel appoints Product Virtuoso to lead Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Since joining Khiri Travel in 2013, Gil Lavedra has been Khiri Travel branch manager in Phuket, Thailand and in Bali, Indonesia where he was responsible for opening the Khiri Bali office and adding signature travel experiences in Flores, Java, Sulawesi and Bali.

Khiri Travel has appointed Gonzalo Gil Lavedra as General Manager of Sri Lanka and the Maldives, effective immediately. He will report to Khiri Travel CEO Richard Brouwer at Khiri Travel’s head office in greater Bangkok.

“We rate Sri Lanka and the Maldives so highly that we’ve put in our best travel product manager in to run the two countries,” said Brouwer.

Gil Lavedra, an Argentine national with extensive travel experience in South America and Asia, has previously lived and worked in Laos, Thailand, and Indonesia. He is renowned for his passionate commitment to going local. Nearly all of his travel discoveries are made with his wife Orana and their 5-year old son, Astor, and 3-year daughter, Antigona.

Since arriving in Sri Lanka in March, Gil Lavedra has already confirmed an innovative list of new travel experiences for guests of Khiri Travel Sri Lanka (one of his top two destinations in the world). These include dining on a special dish of sumptuous Curry Crab in a modest family home in a Colombo suburb; feasting on a wide range of Sinhalese dishes on a mat in the grounds of a 1,800-year old temple in Anaradhapura; elephant spotting from a stilt house in Habarana; and taking a heritage bicycle ride and picnic with a local family in Kandy.

In the Maldives, Gil Lavedra has created a combination holiday that won’t break the bank. It combines a discovery of Male (the most densely populated city in Asia), with scuba diving and snorkeling in Thulusdhoo a short boat ride from the capital, and learning to cook Maldivian cuisine.

“I’m diving deep into Sri Lankan and Maldivian culture and travel,” said Gil Lavedra. “I love the discovery. I want to take fellow travellers along for the ride with me through Khiri Travel.”
