Fair hotel bookings and no commissions: Is Treovi attractive enough for consumers?

Geneva based hotel booking startup Treovi welcomes guests to search and book hotels at what the developers claim is the first totally free online booking portal. The news from Treovi tells of phenomenal hotel adaptation for such a new business model.

GENEVA- Treovi, the Swiss-based startup whose public launch for hotels we announced last month, has finally opened its doors to consumers, meaning that registered hotels can already start selling rooms.

With over 1500 hotels in its database, all signed up in less than a month, Treovi offers a great distribution platform to early adopters. The main advantage for hotels is that they are in full control of their prices and inventory, as Treovi doesn’t retain any commissions from bookings. And unlike other distribution systems, Treovi is free to join, free to use, and open to all hotels, be they independent, or chains, and regardless of their location in the world.

For clients, the most important benefits are that they can now book hotels at the real prices that they can also find on hotel websites, without having to pay any processing fees or commissions to the booking engine. Many experienced travelers use booking sites like Hotels.com to find hotels, and double check for a better price on the hotel’s own website. And sometimes they do find better prices. This is because some hotels add 40% to the cost of each room to cover the cost of listing their hotels with the biggest booking sites. And since Treovi doesn’t charge hotels for listings, hotels can afford to offer customers rooms at their real prices.

In booking using Treovi, customers deal, in fact, directly with the hotel – the middle man is eliminated. For travelers, this is a fairer hotel booking experience, which is further improved by additional features of the booking platform. Customers can compare up to four hotels at the same destination, seeing their exact location on the map. Similar to other hotel booking engines, users can refine search by price range (low/medium/high), but Treovi’s proprietary system prevents travelers from missing better options for “them” which may be 3-4 dollars more expensive than most search filters would allow for.

All things fair so far, however, with so many competitors like Expedia, Orbitz, and Hotels.com around, can Treovi make its mark and attract customers? Is the site’s bold promise, as the world’s first 100% no-commission hotel reservation system, enough to ensure success? Time will tell.
