CAL to reduce free check-in baggage allowance

China Airlines announced that passengers traveling with tickets issued after April 15, 2008, on economy class to North America (including Guam), are allowed to carry two pieces of baggage, with a weight limit of 23kg per piece.

For business-class and first-class passengers to North America, the weight limit for the two pieces of free luggage will remain the same at 32kg per piece. Paragon members are entitled to two additional pieces of baggage free of charge, and Emerald and Gold members are entitled to one additional piece of baggage free of charge. The baggage allowance for Dynasty Flyer members depends on their seat class, whether or not they have mileage-exchanged upgrade seats or free tickets.

China Airlines is following IATA’s environment protection measures to reduce fuel waste against the global warming effect. Also, the increasing price of fuel is an important factor. Moreover, most U.S. and Canadian airlines revised their weight limits for checked luggage from 32kg to 23kg two years ago.
