Bright minds join forces to profile Tasmania to the world

Business Events Tasmania (BET) Ambassadors use their global network, knowledge and expertise to help Business Events Tasmania secure national and international conferences to the state.

Business Events Tasmania (BET) has joined forces with a prestigious group of bright minds who are passionate about profiling Tasmania as a leading business event destination to the world.

These industry leaders will be welcomed as BET’s new ambassadors, today at the official launch of BET’s reinvigorated ambassador program, the Tasmanian Ambassador Program, by the Premier Will Hodgman, who is the Patron of the program.

BET Ambassadors use their global network, knowledge and expertise to help Business Events Tasmania secure national and international conferences to the state.

The Ambassadors are leaders in their field and represent Tasmania’s key industry sectors including food and agribusiness, information, communication and technology, science research, Antarctic and Southern Ocean and international education.

Amongst them, Paul Holper, Director of Scientell Pty Ltd, Professor Neil Bose, Principal, Australian Maritime College and Dr Sean Tracey, Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), who join six other new Ambassadors in the program.

Business Events Tasmania’s CEO, Stuart Nettlefold confirmed that business events injected an estimated $132 million directly into the state economy in 2015.

Business events are an important driver of the Tasmanian economy and working with ambassadors allows us to target conferences that are going to strategically enhance our national and international reputation and showcase our strengths in Tasmania’s key industry sectors and research institutes.

This program gives us the opportunity for fostering innovation, attracting trade, investment and global talent. This will in turn build a stronger, more productive and diverse Tasmanian economy,” Nettlefold said.

Major international and national business events secured through the Ambassador Program include the 30th International Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics in 2014 (200 delegates), the 4th International Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO2 World in 2016 (500+ delegates from 34 countries), the OzCHI National Conference 2016 (150 delegates) and the 22nd International Congress on Modelling and Simulation (MODSIM2017) (1000 delegates) in 2017.
