BCCK celebrates official launch ceremony

Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the first purpose built convention centre in Borneo, celebrated its Official Launch Ceremony with a lavish evening event at the new centre on 18 October 2009. International guests and VIPs were invited to witness the lavish ceremony as BCCK announced they are now fully operational and ready to cater for events of any size.

Overlooking a lush green forest and flanked by the majestic Sarawak River, BCCK is located on a 6 hectare waterfront, allowing delegates to bask in the ambience of nature, whilst being served by dedicated professionals in a world class convention centre with state of the art facilities. Jill Henry, CEO of Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) was impressed by the facilities and culinary delights that BCCK proudly displayed.

“I’m very impressed with BCCK and its team and proud that our world class facility is open for business on schedule. We are looking forward to a long and fruitful working relationship with BCCK to secure many prestigious conferences for the State of Sarawak” she said.

BCCK and SCB have been working closely for over a year and have jointly secured several international conferences.

“Indeed, BCCK’s working relationship with SCB couldn’t be better. We are glad to have a business partner as enthusiastic and dynamic as SCB. Together, we will strive to achieve Sarawak’s vision to be the venue of choice for international conferences”, said Trevor McCartney, Chief Executive of BCCK.

In conjunction with this event, 13 distinguished guests including representatives from the UK and Australia visited Kuching for a site inspection. They are hosted by SCB for the delegates to experience BCCK and what Sarawak has to offer as Asia Pacific’s preferred MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) destination. Sarawak is an emerging destination, garnering world class accolades with the help of SCB and the delegates will experience this for themselves as they participate in a site inspection filled with excitement and rejuvenation, culminated with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), Green and Nature themed activities.

“We’re very excited to showcase Sarawak as one of Asia Pacific’s premier meeting venues. With the opening of BCCK, delegates from around the world will be able to experience Sarawak in a world class convention centre.  Conferences held in Sarawak are unique. We are very serious about CSR and conserving the environment”, said Christina Wendt, Director of Sales and Marketing for SCB.

BCCK is also Kuching’s latest and largest venue for local events like weddings and exhibitions.

“BCCK was built to benefit the people of Kuching and we would like them to know that now there is a new landmark in town that can cater for large scale exhibitions of up to 250 multi tiered booths and wedding receptions of up to 200 tables”, said Trevor McCartney when asked about its latest offerings.
