The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia from January to October this year reached 2.6 million people, foreign cooperation spokesman at the Ministry of Cultural and Tourism, Thamrin Bachri said.
However, the number is below the target of 4.6 million, Thamrin said at the sidelines of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Tourism Working Group (APEC TWG) meeting in Jimbaran, 35 km south of here.
He said the number of 2.6 million foreign tourists was recorded at 13 of at least 25 gateways into Indonesia, and thus it is expected to reach the target of 4,6 million at the end of December.
42 representatives from 15 Asia Pacific countries participate the APEC TWG meeting, according to Thamrin.
Thamrin said Indonesia can take the benefit from the meeting to promote and to improve its tourism image in the international eyes after the October 12 bombing tragedy last year in Bali.
