World experts converge at insigHT2017 to discuss the shifting landscapes of medical travel

Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council hosts a two-day conference on emerging trends and opportunities in medical travel and healthcare industry.

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), also known as Malaysia Healthcare, launched InsigHT2017on 26th September, a conference that brought together industry’s top players and practitioners to discuss and evaluate the latest challenges, trends, and general outlook in medical travel and healthcare industry.

The annual conference, held for the second year at Connexion @ The Vertical, Bangsar South, featured two full days of in-depth expert discussions and presentations of relevant case studies in order to drive and promote overall medical travel. Furthermore, InsigHT2017 also provided an engaging platform for keynote speakers to share actionable insight with industry professionals on emerging trends, service disruptions and opportunities in the medical travel field.

The market for medical travel and healthcare is evolving rapidly, which is why it is important for industry players to stay up to date on emerging opportunities, best practices and latest innovations that are disrupting our industry. Therefore, Malaysia Healthcare has created InsigHT 2017 to provide a dedicated forum to further the industry discussion and address the top challenges facing the market today, as well as to provide attendees with a first-hand look at some of the trends that are shaping the medical travel industry. The conference also provided a platform for industry leaders to share their unique insights for what to expect in the future,” explained the Chief Executive Officer of MHTC, Sherene Azli.

The conference was officiated by the Minister of Health Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, who also delivered the keynote address. In his keynote, he emphasised the need for all agents within the healthcare value chain to continue working together for the betterment of the industry, “Our government recognises that we have great potential in medical travel and a concerted effort has been put in place to promote country as a preferred medical travel destination. Taking into consideration global trends and of our domestic capacity, under our NKEA, one of the main focuses is bringing both the public and private sectors into collaboration, therefore creating the right foundation in our healthcare system.

Undoubtedly, the collaborative efforts of all other stakeholders such as the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM), Tourism Malaysia, MATRADE, MIDA, Immigration authorities, travel and tour operators, hotels and other industry players are vital in expanding this industry further,” he adds.

InsigHT2017 also featured distinguished industry panelists and speakers from various countries such as CEO of MHTC, Sherene Azli, President of the Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM), Dato’ Dr. Jacob Thomas, and Project Consultant TEHealthcare Asia, Anwar Anis, from Malaysia; Managing Editor of International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ), Keith Pollard, from the UK; , CEO of TransformHealth Asia, Dr. HM Goh, from China; and Strategic Planning Director of Ogilvy Commonhealth, Lexi Fletcher, and CEO of Global Health & Travel, Varun Panjwani, from Singapore.

By creating an interactive conference such as InsigHT2017, Malaysia Healthcare has demonstrated its commitment and dedication in driving the industry forward. The comprehensive topics that were addressed at the conference, has proven to be beneficial and informative, especially for those who want to know about the latest updates in the medical travel industry,” said Sherene Azli.

InsigHT 2017 covered a broad spectrum of topics such as Global Outlook on Medical Travel, APAC Medical Travel Outlook, India’s Outbound Medical Travel Opportunities, Disrupting Healthcare Services, Harnessing the Digital Content, all of which were covered in a variety of formats – from inspiring keynotes and general sessions to exciting and interactive panel discussions. The conference also provided valuable networking opportunities for attendees to meet, learn, and get inspired by the top industry leaders and practitioners.
