Genting Hong Kong invites Japan on a scenic journey to the extraordinary with Star Cruises and Dream Cruises

With one of the most robust outbound tourism markets in the Asia Pacific, Japan saw over 15.6 million tourists take a journey outside of the country in 2016.

TOKYO – Genting Hong Kong, a leading global leisure, entertainment and hospitality company, invited guests in Japan to experience the ease and convenience of a cruise vacation during a special “Scenic Journey to the Extraordinary” event on 21 February to launch new homeport deployments, ports of call and fly/cruise opportunities for Star Cruises, Asia’s leading cruise line, and Dream Cruises, the first luxury cruise line in Asia.

During the event, Star Cruises announced that SuperStar Virgo will homeport in Japan, beginning her new deployments in Tokyo and Osaka on 8 July 2017. From her new home, guests will be able to enjoy a new 8D7N Golden Journey embarking from either Tokyo or Osaka to take in the many splendours of cosmopolitan Shanghai, majestic Mount Fuji and idyllic Kagoshima.

Guests will also appreciate the convenience of a cruise vacation as they can visit multiple destinations without the hassle of multiple flights or bus journeys and without the stress of having to pack and unpack and travel to different hotels. For an in depth cultural experience, Star Cruises’ shore excursions will focus on sightseeing with a local traditional show in the ship’s theatre prior to departure.

“The deployment of SuperStar Virgo to Japan reaffirms our commitment to this important source market for Star Cruises,” said Mr Ang Moo Lim, President of Star Cruises. “Our Japanese guests will now be able to enjoy the most popular tourist destinations in China and Japan with all the comforts and convenience found only on a cruise vacation. With weekly departures from Tokyo and Osaka, we are confident this new itinerary will further boost the outbound cruise travel industry in Japan.”

Beginning 2 April 2017, Japan will also get its first look at Dream Cruises when Genting Dream, the line’s first new ship, makes her maiden calls to Naha and Miyakojima in Okinawa from her dual homeports in Hong Kong and Nansha, Guangzhou.

“With the success of our current Vietnam cruises, we are further developing exhilarating itineraries that will capture the beauty and diversity of Asia and excite the passions of our guests,” said Mr Thatcher Brown, President of Dream Cruises. “With pristine beaches, crystal clear waters and myriad cultural and historic attractions, Okinawa Japan is a natural and popular choice for Genting Dream this summer.”

As an option for Japanese guests to experience the Dream Cruises brand for themselves, Genting Dream will begin her homeport in Singapore for one year starting 2 December 2017 to cater to the regional fly/cruise market.

Dream Cruises’ inaugural vessel, Genting Dream is a luxurious floating integrated resort designed specifically for the Asian market and is destined to become Singapore’s newest landmark at Marina Bay Cruise Centre. This also marks the first time Singapore has hosted a large-scale, 151,300-tonne cruise ship for an extended period and the first homeport for Genting Dream in Southeast Asia.

Singapore is a popular and well developed travel hub for the region. For international visitors, Singapore offers a unique multicultural Asian experience with all the comforts and convenience of a modern, international metropolis including an excellent transport system and outstanding cruise centre facilities. Its prime geographic location also makes it the ideal destination for cruise ships such as Genting Dream to visit fascinating cities in South East Asia.
