Airline and railway caterers honored for safety and quality at 5th Annual QSAI Awards

The Gold-winning in-flight catering facilities for 2015 are: Gate Gourmet, Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) Quayaquil, Ecuador (Americas); LSG Sky Chefs, Munich Airport (MUC) Munich, Germany (Europe/ Middle East/Africa); and Kansai In-Flight Catering Co. Ltd., Kansai International Airport (KIX), Osaka, Japan (Asia).

The world’s top in-flight caterers were recognized at the 5th Annual QSAI Excellence Awards held this year in Montreal on March 2nd, 2016.

QSAI is developed in collaboration with, and managed by, Medina Quality whose mandate is to monitor and improve the safety and quality of in-flight food on behalf of international airlines and railway operators.

A total of nine awards are given every year to caterers in three geographic regions: Asia, Americas, and Middle East/Europe/Africa.

The Gold-winning in-flight catering facilities for 2015 are: Gate Gourmet, Jose Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) Quayaquil, Ecuador (Americas); LSG Sky Chefs, Munich Airport (MUC) Munich, Germany (Europe/ Middle East/Africa); and Kansai In-Flight Catering Co. Ltd., Kansai International Airport (KIX), Osaka, Japan (Asia).

LSG Sky Chefs, Munich Airport (MUC) was also the recipient of the coveted Platinum Worldwide Award for the second consecutive year.

“Medina Quality designed the QSAI Programme to allow airlines to monitor and improve the quality and safety of meals provided by their caterers to ensure they are continuously meeting the standards of their customers,” says Matthew Brown, Operations Manager – CRM of Medina Quality. “The QSAI Excellence Awards recognize the dedication these caterers, Airlines & Rail Operators have towards protecting the health and satisfaction of passengers and crew.”
 
For 2015 the awards were open to more than 220 catering facilities from over 85 countries.

The 2015 QSAI Excellence Awards winners are:

  • Silver Asia: Oberoi Flight Services – Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), New Delhi, India
  • Silver Americas: LSG Sky Chefs – Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE), Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Silver Europe/Middle East/Africa: Saudi Airlines Catering Company – King Fahd International Airport (DMM), Dammam, Saudi Arabia
  • Bronze Asia: Delta Airlines Narita Flight Kitchen, Narita International Airport (NRT), Narita, Japan
  • Bronze Americas: Gate Gourmet Canada, Calgary International Airport (YYC), Calgary, Alberta
  • Bronze Europe/Middle East/Africa: Servair NigeriaMurtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS), Lagos, Nigeria.

Medina Quality has been a leader in audits of in-flight caterers since 1983. The company developed the QSAI programme in collaboration with its clients. QSAI is the world’s first auditing programme that allows its clients to monitor and improve in-flight food supplier compliance with internationally recognized standards while sharing program costs. QSAI is designed to ensure that in-flight caterers are rewarded for maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality. Medina Quality offers clients a variety of programmes in addition to QSAI, including alleged food poisoning investigations, food and water microbial analysis results investigations, and alleged foreign body investigations. The company also develops management reporting tools with clients, including operations dashboards, supplier dashboards and performance snapshots.
