ATEC Meeting Place 2015: International destination specialist to reveal smart marketing strategies

ATEC Meeting Place is an annual export tourism industry forum that will take place at Randwick Racecourse on 1-2 December 2015. Mr Doug Lansky will join other speakers on Wednesday 2nd December at Randwick Racecourse to address the conference titled Raising the Stakes – Growing Australia’s Share of Global Tourism.

International Travel Writer, Author, Destination Specialist, Doug Lansky will address next week’s ATEC Meeting Place event looking at the ways destinations can improve their visitor experience.

Doug Lansky is the author of 10 books including 2 for Lonely Planet and 3 for Rough Guides and had a weekly syndicated travel column in over 40 newspapers for five years along with hosting a Travel Channel program and serving as a correspondent for Public Radio’s Savvy Traveler.

In the last decade, new tools have changed the way we inform ourselves about travel and book our trips and some of our travel habits and expectations have also changed with products having a greater ability to reach out and stay connected with their visitor,” Mr Lansky says.

But in many areas our thinking and approach to reach out to visitors lags behind the way the visitors are behaving with some of what we’re doing being effective and some not. And in some cases our actions are undermining our marketing.”

Mr Lansky will place some of these key issues front and center as he lays out some pro-active strategies to improve and protect our tourism offering and get to the core of what drives visitors. He will use some best-case examples from around the world to help illustrate these strategies.

Product and marketing go hand in hand but there has been a lack of focus on smart, brand-aligned product development and my talk will highlight what is being done to turn this around.”

Tourism is a team effort.  It takes just one amazing new experience to bring in new visitors that all can benefit from but it also just takes just one bad experience to colour a visitor’s perspective of your destination.”

Because social media has amplified the voice of the travel, it has never been more important to get it right.”
