New tourism website and visitor app to guide global travellers to Queensland

Ms Coddington, Tourism and Events Queensland CEO, said the organisation had a strong focus on innovation and digital marketing with around 1.2 million highly-engaged Facebook fans, 120,000 Instagram, 74,000 Twitter followers and 80,000 unique visitors each month to the Queensland.com/blog.

Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) unveiled a new look Queensland.com, the State’s official tourism website, and visitor app providing global travellers with enhanced access to destinations across the state.

TEQ CEO, Leanne Coddington, said Queensland.com welcomed more than 3.7 million visits a year and was the front door for travellers considering a trip to the state.

Digital technology is a key element in how visitors plan and book a holiday with travellers sourcing and sharing information on the move in new and exciting ways,” Ms Coddington said.

As well as providing information in eight languages, the redeveloped website is visually-engaging, destination-focused, can be viewed on different devices and delivers a more personalised visitor experience.”

The site also connects to Queensland’s social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, allowing visitors to contribute and share information using the hashtag #thisisqueensland.”

The digital tourism landscape has changed dramatically since the current version of the website was built in 2006, with 35 per cent of all travellers now accessing Queensland.com via a mobile or tablet device.

Ms Coddington said the website was complemented by the new This is Queensland mobile application.

The app takes users through the five stages of a holiday: dreaming, planning, booking, experiencing and sharing,” she said.

During a visit, leading-edge beacon technology, which instantly identifies a visitor’s location, provides tailored destination information.”

The app also prompts holidaymakers to share information about their experiences on social media.

Ms Coddington said the organisation had a strong focus on innovation and digital marketing with around 1.2 million highly-engaged Facebook fans, 120,000 Instagram, 74,000 Twitter followers and 80,000 unique visitors each month to the Queensland.com/blog.

The new Queensland.com and smartphone application will play key roles in both the decision-making process and guiding visitors with travel tips while in Queensland,” she said.

Our aim is to better connect visitors with destinations and convert visitors to the website into visitors to Queensland’s destinations.

Today’s announcement signals the latest phase in TEQ’s approach to grow Queensland tourism’s digital presence and follows the release of Chinese traveller, visitor information centre (VIC) and iPad apps in 2013.
