Sapphire Princess makes its maiden call to Marina Bay Cruise Centre, celebrates with Children’s Charity Ship Tour

SINGAPORE – Princess Cruises invited about 100 disadvantaged children for a cruise ship experience on board the Sapphire Princess, to celebrate the ship’s maiden call at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) on 20 September 2014.

 

These children were from Beyond Social Services, Child at Street 11, Jamiyah Children’s Home and Pertapis Children’s Home. The tour was specially organised by the ship’s dedicated Youth Staff to allow the children to take in views of the majestic ship and enjoy many exciting on board activities. 

 

Farriek Tawfik, Director of Southeast Asia, Princess Cruises, said, “We are happy to host the children onboard the Sapphire Princess as it gives them a rare opportunity to experience a few hours of fun on board a cruise liner. This is the first time that Princess Cruises is organising such a tour for under-privileged children in this region. This also makes for a wonderful Children’s Day gift for the children.”

 

The children were led by the Youth Staff to visit various facilities such as the Calypso Pool, Youth Center and the Kids Zone, which is fully equipped with games and entertainment for the children.

 

This initiative is part of Princess Cruises’ Corporate Social Responsibility programme in Singapore, as it hopes to extend goodwill to the local community after setting up its office here in May 2013. It also unders?cores the cruise line’s commitment in caring for the community it operates in.

 

The Sapphire Princess will return in November to begin its inaugural five-month homeport season in Singapore. The ship is able to accommodate up to 2,670 passengers and 1,000 crew members.
