Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort celebrates grand opening

Ideally located property marks return of iconic Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand to Okinawa, Japan's fastest-growing tourism destination.

OKINAWA, Japan – Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort celebrated its grand opening at a Kagami Biraki Sake Barrel ceremony attended by Hirokazu Nakaima, governor of Okinawa Prefecture, Masaharu Noguni, mayor of Chatan Town, Yoshihiko Miyauchi, senior chairman of Orix Corporation, and Makoto Inoue, president and chief executive officer of Orix Corporation, along with over 350 other distinguished guests. The opening of the Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort represents a return of the Hilton brand to Okinawa for the first time since 1984.

Rob Palleschi, global head, Full Service Brands, Hilton Worldwide, said, “The opening of Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort further strengthens our position as a leader of global hospitality. Through this latest opening, we continue to be diligent about providing culturally relevant, modern accommodations and a complete range of facilities and services.

Visitor numbers to Okinawa, famous for its beautiful beaches and rich native culture, rose 33.4 percent in 2013, making it Japan’s fastest-growing tourist destination, with tourists from abroad increasing by 90.4%, according to Japan Tourism Agency figures released in July[1]. The nine-story property, managed by Hilton Worldwide and owned by Orix Real Estate Corporation, provides an upscale resort experience ideally located in the center of the island next to the Mihama Town Resort American Village, one of Okinawa’s largest entertainment, retail and dining precincts, and close to the island’s famous beaches and attractions.

Tim Soper, vice president, Operations, Japan, Korea and Micronesia, Hilton Worldwide said, “Our Japan story began back in 1963 with the opening of the first Hilton Tokyo in Akasaka, when we became the first truly global hotel brand to commence trading here in Japan. Today we operate 11 properties across three brands in key leisure and business locations in Japan and with aspirations to further develop our operating estate, our commitment to the Japan market is total.”

Travelers are invited to join the celebrations with a range of special package offers. These include the 4-for-3 Special Suite Package, in which the fourth person stays for free when guests reserve a suite for four people or more; the Premium Poolside Cabana Stay Plan, in which guests can enjoy private catered sparkling wine at a private cabana when relaxing at the pool; and an additional 5,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points for guests staying for a minimum of three consecutive nights. The packages are in line with Hilton Worldwide’s invitation to Play! Hilton with a series of unique destination-focused short breaks in Japan.
